LGLC Next Gen Meet Up: Identifying Invasives at Buck Mountain
Buck Mountain Trailhead
1750 Pilot Knob Road, Kattskill Bay, NY 12844
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
2:00 - 5:00 pm - Join LGLCs NextGen Committee for a guided fall hike with LGLC stewardship and conservation staff. Well chat about how land stewardship protects water quality, learn about the impact of invasive species, and get a closeup look at the invasive insect Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), which is currently the leading threat to the Lake George forest ecosystem. The hike will begin at 2pm from the NYS Buck Mountain trailhead. Along the trail, LGLC staff will help us identify HWA and provide insight on how the invasive species is being managed and what you can do if you find it. We will then hike to the second lookout on Camp Chingachgooks exclusive Buck Mountain trail system. The trail is rated easy/moderate and includes a gradual incline, ending at an overlook of Lake George. Please come prepared with hiking shoes, warm layers, and dont forget a snack and beverage to enjoy at the top. After the hike, attendees are invited to join the LGLC NextGen Committee back at Camp Chingachgook for a casual reception with drinks and snacks around the fire. This hike is geared toward young professionals looking to connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts and those looking to learn more about the Lake George Land Conservancy and the role we play in land protection for the greater community.
