First Ever Baseball Showcase Battle at the Borders to start Thursday

The public is invited to watch as baseball teams from around the Northeast and Canada compete in a 4-day tournament at which collegiate coaches scout their next star athletes. With 50 talented teams confirmed, the 1st-ever Showcase Battle at the Borders is the 4th-largest event of the summer organized by Firecracker Baseball Showcase Tournaments. More than 780 participants along with an additional 1,950 spectators are expected to attend this showcase. We expect this first-time event will result in at least 300 room nights booked.

Why: With more than 300 room nights booked ahead of time this tournament is bringing guaranteed, booked business to the area.  Though there are rain postponements, this is weather-proof business for our area. Firecracker also worked with other local businesses, such as Six Flags Great Escape for discount tickets for players. This collaborative approach highlights the vacation opportunities in our area end emphasizes the “sportcation” possibilities.

This event has been a year in the making. CVB Special Event and Convention Sales Director Kristen Hanifin met Firecracker Baseball Owner/President Mark Cooke last year at CONNECTSports, a conference in Salt Lake City, Utah last year.

This event also helps showcase talent to colleges, providing an excellent opportunity for athletes. The College Showcase Camp was close to selling out with 52+ players for the night with 25+ colleges attending. Some of the colleges attending are Salve Regina University, Rhode Island College, St. John’s University, College of Holy Cross, Worcester State University, Wofford College; University of Albany, Castleston University, Nichols College, Johnson & Wales University, Skidmore College and New England College plus more that just show up
