⚠️ Before You Launch

Before heading out on the water, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with Lake George boating rules and safety guidelines. Just like the roadways, the lake has important navigation procedures and regulations designed to keep everyone safe throughout the busy summer season.

Boat Responsibly

Operating a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs is dangerous and illegal. Whether you’re driving your own boat or renting for the first time, always boat responsibly and designate a sober operator before leaving the dock.

Boat Registrations

All motorized vessels on Lake George with 10 horsepower or more are required to be registered through the Lake George Park Commission and display a valid registration decal.

Visitors can purchase:

  • Single Day Registrations
  • Weekly Registrations
  • Full Season Registrations

Boat registrations can be completed online, through the Lake George Park Commission office, or in person at the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & CVB Visitor Center on Beach Road in Lake George. Please note that Chamber registrations are currently cash only.

Boat Inspections & Invasive Species Prevention

To help protect Lake George from invasive species, all trailered motorboats, personal watercraft, and sailboats are required to undergo an inspection prior to launching. Canoes, kayaks, and cartop watercraft are currently exempt from inspection requirements.

Inspections are free and generally take between 5–10 minutes depending on the size and condition of the vessel.

Popular inspection and launch locations include:

  • Adirondacks Welcome Center on I-87
  • Dunham’s Bay Dock & Launch
  • Huletts Landing Marina Inspection Station
  • Million Dollar Beach Launch
  • Mossy Point Boat Launch
  • Norowal Marina
