Lake George: Dog's Best Friend

Technobark, a website that keeps up with the best gadgets and gizmos for dogs, has named Lake George one of the top 10 dog-friendly locations in North America after researching 300 places.
They graded the destinations based on the following criteria:
- Number of dog parks or parks that generally allow leashed or unleashed pets to go out and play per capita
- Dog beaches or beaches that allow leashed or unleashed dogs per capita
- Number of active veterinary service in the city, including cities that have 24-hour pet service available
- Dog-friendly activities such as hiking
- Number of dog-friendly restaurants that allow pets to come in
- General climate of the city
“Kayaking, trail hikes and runs in the park are a great pastime for your dogs in Lake George, and there is no shortage for dog-friendly restaurants,” according to the Technobark post author Mark Braeden.
If you should need veterinary services while you’re visiting, be sure to check out Helping Paws Veterinary Hospital! This vet is located in Queensbury about 10 minutes south of Lake George.

It’s always fun to take a walk by the lake with your four-legged friend.
Though it is not officially a dog beach, there is a sandy stretch along Beach Road in Lake George where dogs can swim. It’s located between the Lake George Steamboat Company and Million Dollar Beach.
If you’re looking for a place to play fetch or just sit and have a picnic with your pup, Battlefield Park is located across the street from the “dog beach” area is a great option.
No canine excursion to Lake George is complete without a visit to the Lake George Dog park located at the end of Transfer Road near the Recreation Park. There is no entry fee for the Lake George Dog Park. It includes both small and large dog areas that are fenced in.
The Lake George Land Conservancy allows leashed dogs in several of its parks and preserves, perfect for hiking.

In Glens Falls and Queensbury, Crandall Park and Hovey Pond Park are great places to walk leashed dogs.
There are also some great annual events in the area for your and your pets!
A new dog-themed event called Tails & Ales is coming to Adirondack Pub & Brewery on May 18 & 19
There will be canine performers, agility course set ups, music and more.
Come see the Green Mountain Dock Dogs dive and check out the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
Adirondack Woof Stock started in Chestertown a few years ago and continues to be a fun annual summer event! Enjoy police K9 demos, agility and lure chasing activities and more. That event takes place June 8 and 9.
Every year Lake George Winter Carnival features “Dog’s Got Talent Contests.” The fun takes place every weekend in February near Shepard Park.
Pet Fest is another fun event every year in Glens Falls. It's coming up Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in City Park in Glen Falls.
Many restaurants in the area welcome dogs in their outdoor dining areas. BringFido.com lists 11 pet friendly restaurants including King Neptune’s, Christie’s, Barnsider, Adirondack Pub & Brewery, Pizza Jerks, The Docksider on Glen Lake, A & W Drive in, Ben & Jerry’s, Davidson Brothers Brewing Co. in Glena Falls, Martha’s Dandee Crème in Queensbury and more.
