Lake George Region on the TODAY Show, Fox Weather, and in the New York Times!
Posted: 2/21/2023 - 2-minute Read
The Lake George region was featured on NBC’S TODAY Show as part of its “TODAY’s Winter Escape” series, giving the region a chance to showcase its one-of-a-kind winter wonderland expereince complete with fun events, natural beauty, cozy accommodations and year-round culinary delights.
The series focused primarily on warm-weather destinations. Lake George was chosen as the sole wintry-weather location.
Lake George was chosen to be featured in the series after the TODAY Show received nominations from two local women — Theresa Case and Erin Anderson.
“I grew up in Lake George, “said Anderson, recalling weekends at Lake George Winter Carnival over the years. “It’s such a fun place. It should be shared.”
Theresa Case is a Lake George Winter Carnival volunteer. When suggesting Lake George to be included in the Winter Escape series, she mentioned Lake George Winter Carnival, Ice Castles and the retirement of Mayor Blais as the longest running mayor in the U.S.
"I had to include a photo to confirm I was in the area I was nominating. I drove down to Beach Road and took a picture of the Welcome to Lake George sign. It was one of those frigid days," Case said. "I was watching The TODAY Show when Craig Melvin, news anchor and co-host, suggested we get our entries submitted."
The live segment aired on Presidents’ Day, Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, from the Fort William Henry Hotel & Conference Center.
It was perfect timing as the region is due to get several inches of snow this week and Ice Castles plans to reopen on Wednesday, February 22.
The Lake George Winter Carnival Outhouse Races planned for February 18th were rescheduled to February 25th in anticipation of the snow.
NewsChannel 13’s Chris Onorato interviewed Lake George Mayor Robert Blais, the longest serving mayor in the United States with 52 years in office.
“People have come here year-round to enjoy everything we have here to offer in the beautiful Adirondacks,” Mayor Blais said. “We’re happy to have you folks here. Welcome to Lake George to everone across the nation.
The feature included beautiful aerial footage by J&S Drones.
