Lake George Rotary Unveils New Welcome Sign!
Posted: 5/7/2024
This past Tuesday was a remarkable day for the Lake George community as we gathered to celebrate the unveiling of the new Welcome Sign at the Lake George Rotary Welcome Corner. The event, hosted in partnership with the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Lake George, marked a significant milestone in the club's storied 75-year history.
Located at the strategic intersection of Route 9 and Route 9N near Exit 21, the Welcome Corner has stood as a symbol of our community's pride and hospitality for over two decades. The corner was first envisioned and brought to life in 2004 by Denny Galloway, a dedicated Lake George Rotarian, in collaboration with New York State DOT, Lake George Town officials, Warren County officials, and CLA SITE Landscape Architecture, Engineering, and Planning P.C.
Over the years, the Rotary Club has maintained the corner with annual cleanups, assisted by the enthusiastic students from Lake George High School's Interact Club and the senior class. This dedication to community service prompted the recent project to design and install a new sign, featuring modern enhancements such as LED and halo lighting, which not only ensure durability but also enhance the sign's visibility and beauty, reflecting the natural allure of our region.
The design of the new sign, inspired by artwork created for Lake George Winter Carnival promotions, pays homage to our scenic landscapes and the enduring spirit of our community. Crafted by local custom fabricator Ed Ostberg of The Design Function, the sign prominently features the Rotary emblem, symbolizing Rotary's commitment to "Service Above Self."
Peter Wilhelm, President of the Rotary Club of Lake George, extended a warm invitation to the community for the dedication ceremony with community members and leaders coming together in a show of support and celebration. Wilhelm expressed his excitement about the new Welcome Sign, stating, "This sign serves as a beacon of hospitality and Rotary's dedication to serving our community. We are thrilled to share this moment with everyone and continue our service above self."
The event was not just a celebration of a new landmark but also a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines Lake George. It was a day filled with joy, community pride, and a renewed commitment to welcoming all who visit our beautiful region.
For those who missed the event, the Lake George Rotary Club invites you to stop by the Welcome Corner to see the new sign and experience a warm welcome into our community.
