Name and Title:
Amanda Metzger
Marketing Director
Where are you originally from?
Binghamton, NY
When did you join the team at the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & CVB?
October 2016
What does your job entail?
In my mind, marketing boils down to connecting with people in a way that enriches their experiences. I want our marketing efforts to make peoples' lives better in some way — whether that means helping Chamber members grow their businesses or helping visitors find the information they need to make their trip unforgettable.
Authenticity is important as I manage our branding and design, print publications (including the 2023 Four-Seasons Travel Guide) website, social media, email marketing, public relations, advertising efforts, and digital programs such as the Adirondack Craft Beverage Trail Digital Passport.
We are a tourism-focused chamber, which means that in addition to the regular Chamber services to members, our Chamber directly communicates with hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
What is your favorite thing about working at the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & CVB?
I love seeing the results of our efforts at the Chamber. The people in our organization work so hard to help our Chamber members, our destination in general, and visitors to the region. It's truly rewarding when we hear from a Chamber member that they had a good season or from a visitor that they made life-long memories here.
What are some of your favorite things to do in the Lake George region?
I love being immersed in nature.
It might sound ironic for me to say this considering my profession, but people weren't made to stare at screens all day. I think if you do that for a living, it's even more crucial to have natural places to decompress.
I love bird watching, nature photography, hiking, biking and kayaking.
I also love that we have a great cultural scene. Lots of live music from opera to rock and great theatrical performances in a variety of venues.
Share a fun fact about yourself!
In 2017 my husband and I became eclipse chasers, meaning we plan vacations around being able to catch these amazing astronomical dances between the earth, moon, and sun.
We traveled to South Carolina to see the total eclipse in 2017. We rerouted at the last minute from Charleston to Greenville due to the weather but made it and got just over 2 minutes of totality. Next year we won't have to travel so far as parts of the Adirondack Park are in the path of totality for another solar eclipse!
