Lake George is a place of peace and rest.

Now our community in the Southern Adirondacks is home to a Ronald McDonald Family Retreat Cottage, providing a space year-round for families who are facing series childhood illness or losses.

On Saturday, July 17, 2021, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of the Capital Region (RMHC-CR) will welcome the first guest family to stay at the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat at Krantz Cottage, located at 161 Ottawa Street in the Village of Lake George.

“Families who are experiencing serious childhood illnesses are under a significant amount of emotional, physical, and financial stress,” said Dr. David Jacobsen, CEO of RMHC-CR in a post on the RMHC-CR website. “This year-round retreat is intended to provide a peaceful respite that allows families to spend time doing what matters most – being together.”

We can’t wait to show our support for these families and share our destination with them.

The cottage is conveniently located within walking distance of beaches, restaurants and several attractions.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On Wednesday, July 14, 2021,  we celebrated the grand opening of Krantz Cottage with a ribbon cutting ceremony along with the Office of Mayor Robert Blais.

About Krantz Cottage

Krantz Cottage guest families enjoy a five-day, four-night stay in the two-story, two-apartment cottage — all free of charge! A RMHC host is available on-site to offer any necessary assistance. Families also receive a complimentary welcome bag with services from the Lake George community business partners, again at no cost to them.

The two-story cottage, which houses an apartment on each floor, is the former law office of the late Howard Krantz.

Community collaboration helped make Krantz Cottage possible. The family of Howard Krantz, Mayor Robert Blais, and the Lake George community worked together to make the project a reality and offer generous support to guest families. Many people and businesses donated gift certificates to restaurants and local attractions. Others gave the gift of their time, most recently including a group of Amish artisans who know firsthand the comfort and compassion RMHC-CR has offered their family members.
