As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, many sporting events in The Lake George Area booked through the Lake George Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau have been impacted by either cancellations or postponments.
We are diligently reaching out to the event rights holders and managers to rebook these events for the near future and to help mitigate the losses to our local businesses, as we know these effects can be felt throughout every industry including hotels, restaurants, shops and more.
Right now, the strategy is to look ahead and see beyond this global challenge. We are preparing strategies now so that when we do come out of this, we have steps to take immediately to help local businesses recover. We cannot control what's happening now, but we can control our strategy for the future. We are here for you now and we will be here for you when this ends.
One of these events to be cancelled recently is the Iroquois-Empire Volleyball Association (IREVA) Junior Regionals, originally planned to be held in May of this year.
IREVA had games booked in many locations in our region including the Adirondack Sports Complex (The Dome), the COOL Insuring Arena and more.
With the current situation occurring in our country with COVID-19, large gatherings and events are being mandated to shut down by government officials.
IREVA plans to return to the region next year in 2021 and still anticipates keeping their regional meeting in The Lake George Area in August, bringing revenue and business to the area. We hope by then things will be business as usual for our region, our country and the whole economy.
Other events booked by the Lake George Regional CVB to be rescheduled include:
-
The Great Nor' Easter Volleyball tournament scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled. No new dates have been provided yet.
-
U12 Softball tournament at the Dome for this weekend rescheduled for April 17-18
-
U10 Softball tournament at the Dome for next weekend, rescheduled to April 25-26.
-
NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball was scheduled for next weekend and is postponed.
The CVB has worked tirelessly to book venues large and small for events such as these, which are important to our local economy, to bring tourism and traffic into the area, bringing in big revenues for local businesses in the entire Lake George Area.
We continue to work on rescheduled events that have been postponed and have faith that after all this is over, everyone will bounce back.
We are here for you now, and we will be here for you when you are ready to book an event.
