The Warren County Historical Society has announced the recipient of its annual “Hon. John D. Austin Jr. Contribution to History Award.”  Maury Thompson of Ticonderoga  has been selected from a slate of candidates nominated by the public. He will receive his award at the WCHS Annual Meeting on Saturday, January 20, 2024, 11am to 2pm, at the Holiday Inn, Lake George.

The award is given in honor of the late Hon. John D. Austin Jr., Warren County judge, attorney, historian, genealogist, and founding member of the WCHS. Lee Coleman nominated Thompson for the award, highlighting his demonstrated dedication to Warren County history through professional work and service, a prolific body of published work which brings attention to the history and archeology of our region, and his significant contribution to furthering the promotion of historical institutions and museums in our area.

The Warren County Historical Society, located at 50 Gurney Lane, Queensbury is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and preserve the history and heritage of Warren County.  Chartered by the NYS Education Department in 1997, the organization offers historical programs, a Resource Center, research and genealogical services, local history publications, a Book and Gift Shop, collections and archives, and a student internship program.
