Thursday, November 12, 2026 | 7:00 PM

Holiday Inn Resort Lake George | Lake George, NY

Join the Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance for a free historical presentation exploring the military career of Philip Schuyler and how his experiences during the French and Indian War influenced his leadership in the American Revolution.

The program, Philip Schuyler and the Battle of Lake George: How the French & Indian War Affected Schuyler's Revolutionary War Experience, will be presented by Kayla Whitehouse of the Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site in Albany.

About the Presentation

Although Philip Schuyler was not present at the Battle of Lake George on September 8, 1755, his military career began during the French and Indian War, when he was commissioned as a captain in a provincial unit. By the end of the conflict, he had risen to the rank of colonel.

Despite his limited battlefield experience, Schuyler was commissioned as a Major General in the Continental Army in 1775, a decision that raised questions among more experienced military officers.

Throughout the Revolutionary War, Schuyler faced criticism regarding his leadership abilities and military experience. However, his expertise in logistics, military supply operations and organizational leadership proved invaluable to the American cause.

His contributions included supporting the American expedition into Canada and Henry Knox's famous mission to transport artillery from Fort Ticonderoga to Boston during the winter of 1775–1776.

This presentation will examine Schuyler's experiences during the French and Indian War, his role in supporting military operations, and how his earlier career shaped his leadership and reputation during the American Revolution.
